I photograph photographers and I love it!

I photograph photographers and I love it!

My family and I moved to Colorado six months ago and the first thing I thought is how daunting it is building my business in the same city with such great local photographers! While it’s SO true that there’s no lack of talent, I’m not scared anymore.

Here’s what I’ve learned about the competition over the last few years and even more now that I’m the little fish in the big pond:

1. They are real people.
2. We’re all trying our hardest to make it as photographers and it’s easier WITH each other, not against   each other.
3. Their talent doesn’t diminish mine.
4. Praying for somebody else’s success over my own helps me to see the big picture and takes the focus off myself. It’s the only thing that combats my jealous tendencies that come so naturally.
5. We’re better together. I’m better because of all these ladies I’m about to highlight below, and the many others I’ve had the pleasure of knowing!

So here’s to being a photographer in a beautiful city with other talented photographers! Here are the ladies I’ve taken photos of since I’ve moved to Colorado.

Colorado Denver family photographyThis is Suzy! I found her through Instagram hashtags and quickly discovered she’s one of the most talented people I’ve ever met. I contacted her to photograph my family photos and it quickly turned in to a session-trade, which is SO much fun! So we climbed on rocks and lugged our children down some fairly questionable slopes to get some wonderful photos. Adventure! If you have me on instagram, you’ve seen some of the wonderful photos she’s taken of my family, too!

Colorado family photographerKim was one of the first people in Colorado Springs to reach out and welcome us to the area. It meant so much to me when she wanted to meet me and have a little camera snapping fun with our families!  She’s such a sweet mother and a genuinely joyful person. She has a mommy-blog that is entertaining and REAL! You have to check her out, she’s such a talent!

Colorado family photographerI’ve known Amie for YEARS. Like “I was in high school and she was my youth leader in New Mexico” years! She was one of the first photographers I saw in action since I tagged along for my best friends senior session in 2006. She wasn’t even pursuing photography at the time, but knew she had a talent to offer to some of her loved ones. She’s been in business for several years now and is taking some seriously inspiring photos!! She’s a visionary, a wonderful photographer and I always enjoy the time spent with her!

Colorado photographerJenna was one of the first sessions I did in Colorado right after we moved here. The fun we had! Her family dynamic was so fun to witness. Their marriage has genuine love and Sawyer is a very adored little boy! As you can see, he’s no stranger to being photographed 😉 Her work with seniors and models is seriously inspiring!

Colorado family photographerSweet, beautiful Savanna! I’m lucky to have photographed her. Not only is she one of the most photogenic people I’ve photographed, she’s sweet and takes an awesome stand to encourage woman to feel beautiful in their skin, even if we’re not perfect by today’s “standards”. She’s an encouragement and inspiration to many! Click here for her Facebook and Instagram!

Colorado Springs family photographerSarah was another one of my first sessions here. When I say that her kids were some of the most well-behaved I’ve ever photographed, I mean it! Her whole family was so warm and sweet to me and to each other during the whole session. She’s such a talent and gave me such great insight and advice to growing a business in a new area.

Colorado Springs photographerKim might be one of my favorite people on this planet and we only spent an hour together. She has the most sincere and tender heart of anyone I’ve met.  Her kids have definitely learned  from her in the areas of poise and kindness (with a dose of silliness they learned from dad, of course!). When I say that you want to be around Kim just so your day gets a little brighter, trust me! And if you’re lucky enough to step in front her camera to be photographed, even better!

Colorado Springs photographerI had to include Jacey! She’s working on setting up shop and is already such a talented photographer! Her little man Rush is the most handsome model for any practice she does! Jacey is going to be a big deal at whatever she decides to do in life, take my word for it!
